Trans-Siberian Orchestra

We will be going to a FABULOUS concert on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Oklahoma City. The group....... Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They are a rock band that puts on a concert like you have never been to before. Heavy, heavy use of strobe lights, lazers, twinkle lights and just a wonderful concert. This is our 3rd year to go see them. Lexi also LOVES them. I think we have ruined her for any "regular" concert. Here is a video of Wizards in Winter that someone took at a concert and here is a finale. You are not supposed to take pictures or video at the concerts but with this you can kind of tell the action that is always happening throughout the concert.

Finally Finished!!!

Alan's project is finally finished and in place. Many of you guessed is a huge, slim bookcase. It is approx. 7' tall by 5' wide. This is a picture from the bedroom toward our bathroom. There is a long hall and I wanted a narrow bookshelf that would fit in the space and not make it feel cramped. It was very hard to take pictures because we couldn't get in front of it to take the pictures. Excuse the ugly wall that is patched, this whole room needs a re-do. We need to paint and get new furniture. I painted the wooden heart with the little dolls many, many years ago.
I have started filling it with books and some nic-nacs.
Here is a view from the bathroom toward the bedroom. I am so pleased with this bookcase. It is just what I wanted. Thanks so much hunny!!
I also want to wish every one a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Curious Kitten....

This could be an interesting Christmas with a kitten. Midnight went to the vet on Friday and got tested for feline leukemia, since that was negative (thank goodness) she got her shots and a check up. The vet says she is approx. 14 weeks old. It is going fairly well with introducing her to the inside animals. Here is the curious kitten in my box while I was taking down all of my Fall pretties.
Then she had to play in the basket of Lexi's magazines.
She helped me unload the dishwasher.
Then we got down our boxes of Christmas decorations.
She had to explore all of those.
She also has been in the tree, climbing it, more times than I can tell you.
When you haven't had a kitten in a while, you forget how curious they are. Wish us luck!!!
You will still have to wait for the project hubby built. It was windy all weekend so we couldn't get it painted. As soon as we get it painted, I will show you and tell you what it is.

A Visit with Grandpa (Alan's Dad)

Today we are wrapping up a two week visit with Alan's dad. Alan and Lexi are taking Grandpa to the airport in Dallas, Texas today, and he is flying home to Georgia. Alan and his dad had a great visit. His dad went with Alan through the week while he worked. While they were at home they talked a lot, did crossword puzzles and just generally caught up on the happenings.
It was a great visit and we will see ya next time!!!

Twilight and Hubby is Making Me Something.....

The movie was not exactly what I expected but I LOVED IT! It was done as more of a low budget film and I believe it was done by an independent film maker. Not all the glitz and glamour that we have come to expect from some of the big name movies. Bella told a lot of the story and it went very true to the book. The romance between Bella and Edward was just fabulous and they played the parts perfectly, of falling in love. I found myself glued to the screen and at times kind of holding my breath with the happenings. The actors in the film are so perfect and you just knew who they were when they came on screen. If you have read the book and loved it.....definitely go see the movie. We already want to go see it again!!

I'm giving y'all a teaser. I asked hubby to make me something and he has worked away on it. He actually finished it Wednesday night and primed it. We were hoping to get it painted Thursday but the wind was roaring and it was cold, cold outside. I'll have to see what today's weather brings.
Want to guess.....just for fun? I hope to show you on Monday or Tuesday.

Who else is going to the show at midnight tonight? I am, along with two other friends and we are so excited we can hardly stand ourselves. We will be there with all the teens in town. I also got the CD the other day and I absolutely LOVE it. I can't wait to see what music goes where in the movie.
Sorry I didn't visit many of you yesterday but I had a horrible headache. I am hoping that it stays away today.

Am I The Crazy Cat Lady???

What is going on????? You know I showed Mama Kitty a few posts back that adopted us.....she really belongs to the people across the street but prefers it here at our home, so we feed and care for her. She does stay outside and has all her life. We have a carport that is enclosed on three sides and have a kennel there with bedding in it for the chilly weather we are starting to have. Well, let me tell you the story of this kitten!
My older poodle Chelsea has to go out every morning sometime between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. I get up and take both poodles out and then go back to bed for a while. The other morning, the instant I opened the back door, there was LOUD, LOUD meowing coming from the back part of our acre down toward the small creek bed. I had my flashlight and headed back there to see what was wrong with a cat. I might also add our weather was pretty cold that night.....high 30's. I started hearing the meowing above my head and was looking up in the trees. She was so high up in a tree I couldn't even see her with my flashlight, cause you know it was pitch black outside. I started calling her and she finally came down out of the tree. Shaking and purring away.
Lexi has promptly taken to her and has named her Midnight. We are guessing she is probably about 10 to 12 weeks old. I have driven around a bit to see if anyone is missing a kitten and no one is fessing up. She is the sweetest kitten and turns on her purring the instant she sees anyone. We have her in our garage at this point, but I think we will try to socialize her with our indoor animals Chelsea, Lucy and Tangie. Tangie will be the hardest because she is not friendly at all with other cats. She barely tolerates the dogs and doesn't really like people, only us. I'll let you know how it goes. Please, please all you other cats and kittens out there don't come looking for a home here. We have enough right now and don't need any more.

I've Been Book Tagged....

Lorrie from The View From My Door has tagged me with a book tag and it lists the rules right in the picture.
  1. I have loved to read books as far back as I can remember.
  2. My favorite series when I was growing up were Nancy Drew Mysteries.
  3. I read fiction and still love mysteries and suspense books, with an occasional romance thrown in.
  4. Some of my favorite authors are Harlan Coben, Mary Higgins Clark, Carol Clark and Danielle Steel.
  5. My newest favorite series is the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer....I am going to see if she has other books out, because I am sure I would enjoy them. Love her writing style!
  6. If I start a book and can't "get into it", I can take it right back to the library. I don't keep reading "hoping it will get better". They have to capture my attention within just a few chapters.
  7. I get most of my reading material from the library, but I do buy books from yard sales, garage sales, etc. cause I just LOVE having my own books around in my home.

I know I never play right by the tag rules anymore, so if you want this book tag, feel free to take it and post some random book facts on your blog.

A Few Decorations in my Parent's Oklahoma Home....

I bet all of you have thought when my parents came to visit us in Oklahoma they stayed with us, right? Wrong! My parents have their own home on the same street as us, but just around the corner....easily within walking distance. They bought the home as their retirement home and it has been totally remodeled, but they have not retired yet. I do hope they retire soon. I can't wait to have them living here and out of Houston. Anyway, here are just a few of the decorations in the house right now. This is on their coffee table.
Remember the homemade cloche's Marie made here? Well, my mom saw mine that I copied and she wanted some too. I thought hers turned out great! The tops of these are little bud vases....cute aren't they?!?
Here are my mom's apothecary jars. She loved the little bling jewels, acorns and pumpkins I had in mine, so I got her the same thing.
Here is their mantle. Isn't that big clock BEAUTIFUL? We also filled a large apothecary jar with pumpkins and gourds.
When they come in for Thanksgiving we will be decorating her home for Christmas. She already has a tree and some ornaments here. They bring more and more things for their home each trip they make.

Lucy, Plug and Fan Love....

The update on Lucy is that she did just fine with her spay surgery. This was yesterday when I brought her home. She was exhausted (you know all those barking dogs don't let you get any sleep) and cuddled right up on the couch with a blanket. While she was under the anesthesia, she also had to have four of her baby teeth pulled that had not fallen out.
This was later on during the day.....she had to chew a while on her bone. This was in between napping on and off all day long. Thanks for all the well wishes for my little pup during her surgery. I know it is a routine procedure, but it still just scares me to death till I hear she did fine.
Can you love plugs??? YES you can. Wednesday morning we had electricians come and install four new plugs. This one is on the half wall when you first come in our home. Next to it is a little bench. Now I can put a small table there with a table lamp of some sort on it. I am too excited!
Here is another one on the wall by my little bill desk......something can now light up on that desk too....*squeal* Can you detect the joy in my writing? The other two are outside under the eaves so hubby has an easier time with the Christmas lights.....yes, I can hear him squealing (does a man squeal??) for joy over those!!
Last but not least, you either LOVE ceiling fans or hate them. We LOVE them. This is a beautiful new one....our old one died and we went out to find a new one. That was HARD! This is in our living area and we wanted just the perfect one. Finally found it and LOVE it!!

I Won Some Giveaways!!!

I wanted to thank a couple of lovely ladies for drawing my name in their giveaways! First off, I won this medium size Pampered Chef scoop from Tammy at Lattes and Lollypops. She also threw in all of these great recipe cards with it. Thank you so much Tammy.

Next, I want to thank Smiling Sally. She has a book review blog called Book Critiques and has book giveaways on it. I have won both of these books in separate drawings. I can't wait to start them after I get out of the Twilight series (I am almost through with the last book, Breaking Dawn).
Be sure to stop by and visit these wonderful blogs and tell them Darlene sent you!

Trash to Treasure...

You probably remember seeing this in an earlier post. A large jug with lights in it and looks, oh so much better than a picture shows, with the light illuminating the area. I am still using it through Thanksgiving with the orange lights in it.
Here is another bottle with lights that I am using in my kitchen window.
Now for the treasures....I have been on the hunt for more inexpensive bottles to put white lights in for Christmas. I found these at a little antique store and the man saw me pick a couple of them up and put them down (just cost too much).....he came over and gave me a different price than was marked on the sticker....all four bottles for $6.00 so someone else's trash became a treasure for me.
Be sure to go over and visit or link with Diane at A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words to visit all the other Trash to Treasure participants.
Also, my little Lucy pup will go in this morning to get spayed.....keep her in your heart and prayers that all goes well for my little sweetie.

Another Kitty....

First off....I finished Eclipse Saturday night. I took a break Sunday from reading and I will be starting Breaking Dawn today. I have LOVED this series of books. Again, if you are thinking about reading them....DO IT! Now on to my real post:
I wanted to introduce you all to our kitty that has adopted us. She actually belongs to the people across the street, but sadly they have no business having any animals. She has probably had six litters of kittens and she is not very old. Finally, another neighbor was fed up with all the kittens and took seven of the females to a low cost spay clinic and had them all fixed. This one, that has always been named "Mama Kitty" won't stay away from our house. She now fights with all the cats over there, and for about 2 months now we have been feeding and caring for her and pretty much figure she is ours. The lady that had the seven females fixed, has about eight to ten cats that are always at her door and the people that started all this (because they won't take care of the cats) have four that hang out at their house.
Mama Kitty is gorgeous and very friendly and even my hubby, that wasn't going to have any part of letting the cat stay here, now feeds her and pets her.
Now up on my soapbox......if you have an animal....TAKE CARE OF IT!! That means getting it fixed (because there are plenty of stray animals that would love to have a good home), get it shots, give it shelter and love!! To me animals are precious creatures and I just can't fathom people that get an animal and then don't give them the proper care. Off my soapbox now, just needed to get that off my chest.
Now, I hope everyone has a fabulous Monday!

A Perfect Blend of Friendship Award...

I have received another award and it is from Cheryl at Blueberry Buttons and it is A Perfect Blend of Friendship Award. Thank you so much Cheryl for passing this to me. Cheryl has a great, fun blog and if you haven't stopped by hers please do.
This award asks you to answer four questions.
  1. Do you have the same friends since childhood? No, I don't. We have moved to different states several times and I have not kept up with any friends that I had from childhood.
  2. What do you value most about your friends? I think it would have to be their personalities. I only have a few "close" friends and each one is just a pleasure to be around and I always hate it when our "get together" time ends.
  3. Are your friends sounding boards? Very rarely ~ usually my hubby is my sounding board.
  4. What is your favorite activity to share with friends? Shopping....nuf said!

Now I am supposed to pass this along to three of my blogging friends they are:

Brandee at The Berry's Patch

Robin at The Robin's Nest

Kitty Scraps at A Bit of Fluff Quite Messy Really

Go by and visit these blogs and ladies, they will all bring a smile to your face.

The Rest of My Thanksgiving Decorations...

Here are the rest of my decorations to go through Thanksgiving. I made this little cross-stitched saying many, many years ago. It is "Home Sweet Home" for me. The is on my little desk that houses my bills to be paid.
My Welcome Harvest sign moved from the top of my little hutch to the top right of my computer desk, the scarecrow family from yesterday is to the left.
A cornucopia and pumpkins on the coffee table on top of a Fall runner.
This is above the fireplace on the bricks (we still need to build a mantle). You have seen the cute little candle holders before but they are here right now filled with pumpkins, acorns and textured balls and swirly things. Also, my little Moon Fairy is sitting up there.
Here is a close up of my little Moon Fairy.....the moon lights up. You know I am all about things that light up!
Here is more above the fireplace....the white pumpkins and berries were there before but I have added my white turkey to it.
Well, that is all the decorations for Thanksgiving.....we are barreling right along to that fabulous day!
