Am I The Crazy Cat Lady???

What is going on????? You know I showed Mama Kitty a few posts back that adopted us.....she really belongs to the people across the street but prefers it here at our home, so we feed and care for her. She does stay outside and has all her life. We have a carport that is enclosed on three sides and have a kennel there with bedding in it for the chilly weather we are starting to have. Well, let me tell you the story of this kitten!
My older poodle Chelsea has to go out every morning sometime between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. I get up and take both poodles out and then go back to bed for a while. The other morning, the instant I opened the back door, there was LOUD, LOUD meowing coming from the back part of our acre down toward the small creek bed. I had my flashlight and headed back there to see what was wrong with a cat. I might also add our weather was pretty cold that night.....high 30's. I started hearing the meowing above my head and was looking up in the trees. She was so high up in a tree I couldn't even see her with my flashlight, cause you know it was pitch black outside. I started calling her and she finally came down out of the tree. Shaking and purring away.
Lexi has promptly taken to her and has named her Midnight. We are guessing she is probably about 10 to 12 weeks old. I have driven around a bit to see if anyone is missing a kitten and no one is fessing up. She is the sweetest kitten and turns on her purring the instant she sees anyone. We have her in our garage at this point, but I think we will try to socialize her with our indoor animals Chelsea, Lucy and Tangie. Tangie will be the hardest because she is not friendly at all with other cats. She barely tolerates the dogs and doesn't really like people, only us. I'll let you know how it goes. Please, please all you other cats and kittens out there don't come looking for a home here. We have enough right now and don't need any more.

Oh Darlene, I think Midnight must definitely be meant for you. One of our three cats, Oliver, found us--we were actually away for the weekend visiting my MIL--but there was no doubt about it, he was OUR kitten from the start.

I'm sure Midnight will do fine with the dogs. Older cats are often more accepting of a kitten. I put Ollie in an animal carrier when we first got him and let the other cats smell him when he was in there, that way nobody could get hurt. I also let him sleep on a blanket which I then put out for our other cats to smell. It took a while and a lot of hissing and swatting, but they did accept him in the end.

Such a pretty cat...BUT, Abby and I are allergic to them! Our eyes swell up and itch like crazy whenever we get around them! So, that's why we have two dogs.

Sounds like Midnight has found a wonderful home with lots of love. Hopefully, your other animals will warm up to the idea of having a new addition to the family. Your daughter looks like she's found herself a "keeper"...sweet pictures.

Darlene, Midnight is adorable and needs your love. Your story is so sweet. I can tell you are a softie.

Come over today I tagged you. If you don't have time and have done this, don't worry about it. It was fun to do if you like to read.

Hugs...Jeanne

Darlene,

I know just where you are coming from because we seem to attract the dogs at our house at least a cat is some what independent.

All I can say is you must have a home that they sense is safe and loving.

Good Morning Miz Darlene OR should I say "Hey you, Crazy Cat Lady" ? LOL Bless your heart, once Lexi saw Midnight it was all over with, you didn't stand a chance on this one friend. We're having a little kitty drama around here too, Indy is crazy for Sissy and Sissy is wanting nothing of him!! She's been declawed and he hasn't yet so the fighting is pretty evenly matched LOL Funny seeing little two pound Indy going up against 14 pound Sissy! He doesn't back down either, he chases her around - loads of entertainment. Have a wonderfully blessed week!

I can think of a lot of things that are worse than being the crazy cat lady. LOL!! That's one smart kitty to find you.

You know they're all out there spreading the word - "We've found a great place...everybody come on."
Stock up on the food.

I'm like that too - I can't turn them away. She's beautiful.

Crazy cat lady:) That little midnight is just too cute. We used to have a little guy just like that named Lars. He was a sweetheart:) There must be something about you (besides the food;) that attracts cats to you??

Neabear said...

It must be your cat magnitism. :-) That is why they know to come to your house. Midnight is a very fitting name for the new little one.

What a sweet little kitten! I'm a sucker for black cats (maybe that's why I have two!). Good for you for taking her in, she obviously needed a home.

Oh what a cutie! My girls want a cat but I'm allergic (go figure), haha. We have two dogs, I think we're good. But I was raised with cats and my parents would always find strays dropped off at the barn. I honestly think people knew we'd take care of them so...anyway, it's still pretty much like that, hehe.

Oh, what a sweet cat! She looks just like Max did when he was a baby! I have such a warm spot in my heart for black cats! My theory on your cat adventures of late is that they know that you will love them! They have come to the right place! :)

Have a beautiful day! :)

Hi Darlene:
Midnight must of known your family was special and would care for her (or is it a him?).
My daughter and granddaughters are allergic to cats, so we don't have any.
I hope your other animals will accept her.

You guys are so sweet to take care of these poor homeless kitties. I did the same thing when I lived in Utah...we were out at the edge of town and had nothing but miles and miles of fields behind our house. People would take their cats down into the fields and just dump them off. They would wander up to our house hungry and scared...we had 21 cats at one time...and none of them were ours! Needless to say I just can't say no to an abandoned animal. Luckily we were able to find homes for most of them. It's nice that your heart is so big. I hope this cute kitty melds into the family with little trouble.

Hello Miss Crazy Cat Lady. Didn't you know we have a secret code tattooed on our foreheads that say "animal lover"? That's how they know to come to our doors. I'm not sure there is a way to have it taken off...sorry. :0)

Darlene, I think Midnight knows a good thing when she sees it!!!! What a pretty cat. I think I would feel the need to take her (or is it him) into my family. The poor thing must have been pretty cold out there! You are a good person.

You certainly are a cat magnet, aren't you? I think that's so sweet though. Don't you think Lexi needed a baby kitty? I'm sure she would agree.

You know, I think animals know where they need to go for love and care...they've obviously found the right home!

I think I'm a crazy cat lady, too....lol...we have an inside cat, plus an outside cat that adopted us who had 4 kittens 8 weeks ago...we're keeping them all. They're going to the vets tomorrow.

Jules from "The Roost" said...

OMGosh my daughter just adopted a black cat that her neighbors left behind. Can you believe people leave their pets behind? He is sweet just like your cat and thankful to have a home. You are such a nice person! :)

Kelly said...

Oh, she is a beauty!

It's a good thing that we don't live too close otherwise, I would have snatched her up!

I have been wanting a cat for a long time but I fear that my 2.5 yrs old boy would hang her by the tail and say "look, ma!". I don't think so. Besides, my husband is allergic to cats but is willing to take one in and take some meds.

Maybe in a couple of years, we will adopt a cat, I hope! :)

Tell Lexie, she looks beautiful sitting with Midnight! Enjoy her!

That is one really cute kitty! Midnight's name fits her coloring and her "discovery story" perfectly. Your daughter is very pretty too, and I can tell she loves her new kitten.

Hi Darlene
Isn't that interesting that the kitties love your place..well they can sense that you have a love for them. Hmmmm thinking on this..don't cats usually have this tendency to sit on the laps of people who are not cat "people". *lol*. Definately a different story when they are outdoors it seems.
Midnight is beautiful. I hope you do take her in. I wonder whether she was just simply dropped off, tht does happen. Poor kitty kat. I'm sure she would adjust just nicely...
Hope you have a lovely day
