Another Kitty....

First off....I finished Eclipse Saturday night. I took a break Sunday from reading and I will be starting Breaking Dawn today. I have LOVED this series of books. Again, if you are thinking about reading them....DO IT! Now on to my real post:
I wanted to introduce you all to our kitty that has adopted us. She actually belongs to the people across the street, but sadly they have no business having any animals. She has probably had six litters of kittens and she is not very old. Finally, another neighbor was fed up with all the kittens and took seven of the females to a low cost spay clinic and had them all fixed. This one, that has always been named "Mama Kitty" won't stay away from our house. She now fights with all the cats over there, and for about 2 months now we have been feeding and caring for her and pretty much figure she is ours. The lady that had the seven females fixed, has about eight to ten cats that are always at her door and the people that started all this (because they won't take care of the cats) have four that hang out at their house.
Mama Kitty is gorgeous and very friendly and even my hubby, that wasn't going to have any part of letting the cat stay here, now feeds her and pets her.
Now up on my soapbox......if you have an animal....TAKE CARE OF IT!! That means getting it fixed (because there are plenty of stray animals that would love to have a good home), get it shots, give it shelter and love!! To me animals are precious creatures and I just can't fathom people that get an animal and then don't give them the proper care. Off my soapbox now, just needed to get that off my chest.
Now, I hope everyone has a fabulous Monday!

I'm so with you about animal abuse...I just want to kick some people in the 'you know what' for the way they neglect animals.

Good Morning Miz Darlene,
You know how I feel about my pets and I agree with you 110% Girlfriend. And I'm so happy Mama Kitty has your family to care for her. She's gorgeous, such a pretty pretty kitty. That's sort of how our little Indy came to be, my friend captured a pregnant kitty in her neighborhood. It was her second litter, my friend having captured and cared for her thru her first one too. My family is sharing the cost with my friend for having the Mama Kitty's surgery along with the kittens including Indy so hopefully this Mama won't have to thru another litter. She too is very young. It's heartbreaking to know there are sweet creatures out there neglected and abused. You're my hero today Miz Darlene, for stepping up and caring for one such creature. You're a sweet lady indeed and I'm proud to call you bloggy friend *smiles*
Have a wonderfully blessed day!

Congratulations on your new little Mama Kitty! She is lovely and wisely chose her "new home" :-)Great post & message - Thank you.

Darlene, I couldn't agree more! We made sure to spay Tupelo right away - not worth the risk! There are far too many homeless animals out there, and it totally breaks my heart. I wish I could take them ALL home.

I agree too. At work there are feral cats. Someone built shelters for them. Someone brings them food. And now that the colder weather is coming, they like to jump on the hoods of cars after we arrive to work, to warm up. I find kitty footprints on my car a lot during the winter.

OH she is beautiful. You are so kind to take her end. I can't believe that people can be so awful with their animals!! Urrr

She knows a loving family when she finds one.
She looks like my cat, Ginger, that I had growing up - beautiful.

Hi Darlene - I "complain" about our cat, but I can't imagine not coming home to her!! We adopted her when DD was in the second grade and we had to sign that she would always be an indoor cat and she has - she is only allowed to go out on our screened in porch! I can't fathom some people getting animals and then not taking care of them. They are cute when they are little, but I think people forget they are also a resposibility!! OK - I'm done now!
Great post and congrats on all your recent awards.

Hi Darlene, we have three cats that live inside. We live on a wooded cul-de-sac and have had people drop off cats and kittens and it just infuriates me. I've been able to find homes for the ones that have stayed closest to my house. The youngest of our 3 cats was an abandoned kitten!I totally agree with you about people needing to be responsible pet owners. Enjoy Mama Kitty and Breaking Dawn!

AMEN SISTER!!! And it is a really pretty cat. But how do people do that to sweet innocent animals???

Rambling Girl said...

Oh I totally agree....we are animal lovers! I always have strays show up at our house. Living on a goat farm we actually love the fact they all come around but we can't seem to catch any cause they are so wild but they keep the mice down. I just don't understand why people don't take care of their animals.

Well she sure is a cutie!

What a cute little kitty. I have to say I love the Twilight series too! What a great way to take you away for an afternoon. Can't wait until the movie!

Amen! There are some strays in our neighborhood now that are so feral that nobody can touch them. I dread it too because I know before long there will be even more when kittens are born. :(

I couldn't agree more. We have always had our animals fixed as soon as they were old enough. Right now we have 2 cats and a dog. Drives me CRAZY theses people that don't care. I can't stand to see an animal hungry or without a home. Thanks goodness your neighbor took care of those other cats. She must be a really nice lady.

Darlene, you are a softie. Thank heavens for people like you. Mama Kitty is so pretty and she knows where love can be found. I so agree with you about people who neglect pets. On that note as I am writing this comment, my daughter who lost her dog is investigating an adoption of a coon hound that is in a shelter right now. It is actually a family who takes animals and makes sure the dog is not mentally damaged. This dog is so cute and reminds you of Cocoa. They had to drive a long ways to a town called Port St. Lucie in FL. My daughter lives in Jacksonville. I was hoping we would get a call by now. We saw his picture on the computer. What will be will be. Sigh.

Hugs...Jeanne

taking care of pets is a lot of work...you are right..If you can't go the extra mile you shouldn't have them...cute Cat!

Kelly said...

I agree with you!

It's also one of my biggest pet peeve.

My dog is fixed and we even got our bunny fixed as well as soon as she was able to do so.

If I could do it, then other animal owners can do it as well!

Thanks for your great message. There are really uneducated people out there who does not know squat about getting their animals fixed.

Okay, I'll stop now. You have a great week! :)

What a beautiful cat! And amen sister.... those books are like a drug! I couldnt stop reading once I started.

Hi Darlene:
I couldn't agree with you more!!! I just don't get it why people get pets and then don't care for them. I cry everytime I watch Animal Cops and see the abuse.
Our last two dogs have been rescued from the pound...and they've been the best. I think they appreciate being "saved".

Bless you, Darlene, for taking in that sweet cat. I think that the way someone treats a creature that is completely dependent on others for love and mercy is a good measure of character. My hat is off to you.

AW....what a sweet kitty!! Amen to what you say about looking after pets! I know a family similar to the one across the street from you, and it sickens me...they have no right to have any pets!!

Amen sister! I hate it when people don't take care of their animals. I hate it even more when they treat animals like they are disposable. I could go on and on with this. You know I have a soft spot for them. :-)

Well said Darlene...I am totally with you on the animal thing. I am starting Twilight today....I know once I start that will be it....I'm gonna be a gonner and get nothing done for my upcoming bazaar...oh well...I am sure that it will be worth it!

Great post today!

Amen sister preach on! preach on!!! I love kitties but due to allergies, we cannot have any in the house. And not good around birds. I have 3 birds that would be a meal and one bird that would tear a cat to bits. Not good.

And about birds. If you ever go to my photography blog, go to my photography website and click on animals. You will see a lot of 'discarded' or 'rescued' parrots. Another animal that people think is cute and fun for a pet and take it home w/out doing proper research. Then realize, "it repeats every thing that is said!" or "doesn't talk at all!" to noisy, sings all the time, poops! Ate my furniture. Took my DH's hand off! Mauled my dogs face... cost me $1000 at the vet. Wants to sit in my lap/shoulder all the time. Won't let me near it's cage.... So many reasons.

Zoey and Tweety both think they are human and are a tad warped from so many years of just human interaction and no interaction with their own kind. We had Candie for a year before Tweety would let her near him. He simply was not sure what she was. And over and over he would ask her "What's your name?" Or he would pick up a toy or ball and toss it across the cage to her and say, "roll me the ball." But when he was about 3 or 4, he figured it out...

I am constantly getting calls from people wanting to 'give' me their bird. Or have me help them in 're-homing' their bird.

We love animals, but if you do not have the time to give them the love and attention that they need, or the money to provide and care for them properly, you don't need to have them.

I think you have a new kitty there and she is a pretty tortie!

Sorry my post is so long. I did not mean to write a book!

I hopped over from Lorrie's blog and thought I'd say hello! I always enjoy meeting new people. Please feel free to drop by anytime!

Have a good one! Beautiful kitties...but, I'm allergic to them. :(

Darlene, what a good soul you are to take care of and love Mama Kitty. There is a definite reason she keeps coming back to your house!

I agree with you completely. I keep contemplating getting another cat. (We had one years ago) but I don't feel ready for that commitment yet and I know it wouldn't be fair to any cat that I would get.

You are a blessing.

take care,
Dawn

Mama Kitty is just too sweet! I am so glad that she will be spade and have a caring home! Easter adopted us and we also took him to our vet for "fixin'". My husband said we broke him. :o) Bear also adopted us! We are so blessed with sweet animals! :o)
I have heard so much about this book series, that I just may cave over Christmas break and check them out at the library! My 15 year old daughter read all 4 in a week! She was able to check them out at her school library. :O)

Man, I agree with you 100%. Every kitty that we've ever had has been a rescue or stray kitty that we've adopted. There are so many that need homes. I get so mad when I hear people say they want their kids to see the miracle of life when instead they should be showing them the miracle of being responsible and having their pet spayed or neutered.

Angie said...

AMEN AMEN and AMEN!!! You are now officially my hero! People who have animals and don't make them a part of the family and care for them just make me sick! In my opinion, you should be required to spay or neuter your pets because the the problem of homeless animals is so insane and people should not be allowed contribute to it. Oh girl, I can so go on and on about this! Adoption is the ONLY option!!!

Hi Darlene~
What a beautiful cat she is! She reminds me a little of Lillie...sniff, sniff...I will never understand how some people treat their animals. It makes me very sad. But it looks like she's come to the right place. It's very nice of you to take care of her. :)

Just surfed into your site, its fantastic! Good luck with the kitties...Hubby and I have spent the last 28 years taking care of kitty strays...and you are correct...TAKE CARE OF YOUR ANIMALS!!! We currently take care of a small feral kitty community as well as our indoor herd...half the outdoor ones are neighbors cats that are not taken care of at all...i actually took one home to its owner on mischief night...only to find it peering in my kitchen window halloween morning....good luck...she is a beautiful tortie!

Darlene, I'm sending the link to this post to my buddy, Bonnie. She has hauled more stray cats in to be "fixed" than anyone I know! She also had an elderly cat, amazingly also called Mom Cat, that was almost the starter cat of the brood she sheltered for years. At the peak, there were 20 strays she cared for (had them fixed and fed them)--they had their own "house"/storage building with little nests of straw for them to sleep in when the weather got really cold. She gave them all names and consistently fed them morning and night and took them in to the vet when they looked sick or injured. Over the years, several have passed away and she is now down to 4-5 outdoor and 2 indoor cats--Mom Cat just recently had to be put to sleep. Her "herd" of cats started by a jerky neighbor who didn't take care of them---so she did. There's a special spot in heaven for those who care for animals in need! Dana
