Trash to Treasure Tuesday...

Diane at A Picture is worth a Thousand Words is hosting Trash to Treasure Tuesday so be sure to go by and link up.
Many of you have seen this before but I was at my Habitat for Humanity thrift shop and saw some frames with this black mesh in them. I was told they had been in a cabinet that had speakers for a stereo system behind them and instantly my brain got working.
Here are the three I purchased after we ripped that mesh off of them...that wasn't easy....had to have hubby's help. Oh, by the way, these cost 50 cents each.
Here is what treasure this trash became. Three chalkboards for my home. These two are in the kitchen area. I usually keep a menu on the big one so we all know what is for dinner.
This one is right at the front door for any messages or reminders. Oh, and the big reminder today is "Be Sure To Vote"!
Hope you enjoy Trash to Treasure Tuesday and stop by Diane's to see all the other projects.

I remember you sharing this and I am still as impressed!! I have a hard time seeing the bigger picture of what something could be. If I keep blogging enough it should become easier. I just love those chalkboards you made. They are wonderful...and dinner sounds good tonight. :)

take care,
Dawn

Darlene what a great idea. I'm more like Dawn in that I have a hard time seeing a new use for an item. I'm going to give it some more thought so I hopefully can participate next time.

I love what you did with them! I am like Dawn. I cannot see that big picture. My imagination will not work that far....

Good Morning Miz Darlene,
I think anytime you can get a wood frame for 50 cents you should snap it up! And look what you did with them! I've been wanting a chalk board for my kitchen or a mini one maybe for the fridge and I haven't gotten around to making one yet *sigh* I better hurry as my dear Mister is threatening to buy a dry erase board! EGADS! NO!

I did finish my ragamuffin garland yesterday before work *beaming smiles* Now if I can figure out why my flash on my digi quit I might can post a pic to prove it to you *smiles*

My friend Lisa and I went to the Memphis Habitat Restore and were SORELY disappointed to read a crudely written note on the door..."Store is closed...PERMANENTLY" What? Why????? I'm still sad about that.

You did a great job with those frames!

Wow! They look great! I love repurposing things. I can already think of ways that having a chalk board in different places in my house would help.

Thanks for the good idea!

Hi Darlene!

I love your idea! Those frames were a steal at that price and you made so functional. At my age i need all the reminders I can get so I could use a blackboard by my door! I think I'm going to learn a lot from Diane's T to T days -- I have to learn how to become more creative.

Hugs, Pat

Aren't you just the clever one! And what a bargain for 3 beautiful chalk boards! I never would have thought of that. I swear I need to take you ladies with me to the flea markets!

Hi Darlene~
I love what you did with the frames, and how you put the two together! :)
I have wanted to use an old frame for a chalkboard, but what do you spray the chalkboard paint on? Perhaps the glass?

Thank you for your comment regarding the election. This is going to be a LONG day!

Jenni @ nest to keep said...

Hey again!
Thank you for letting me know how you did your chalkboards. :)

And 30 minutes to vote! That seems like a long time! :)

Jenni @ nest to keep said...

No, you didn't say it wrong! :) I knew you meant it took 30 minutes of waiting in line, but that still seems like a long time for you to have to wait! But it is amazing how long they say the lines are! :)

This was such a great way to use someone else's castoffs! I went to a H for H thrift store while visiting family in TN, but I don't think we have one around here in LA. I wish we did, they had some really neat stuff!

To answer your question, I live in Wagoner and I work in Tulsa. We used to live in Norman. I went to school at OU, and my in-laws still live there and we visit often. It's always nice to meet fellow Oklahomans :)

Oh, I am excited to see this...your chalkboards are wonderful.
I just bought a hugh frame at a garage sale for 2.00, now I want to make a chalkboard and am not sure what to put in the frame to paint the chalkboard paint on.?
Something like fiberboard or masonite is the only thing I can think of. Would you please come over to my space and tell me? Sure would appreciate it...
