Farmers Market

Lexi and I walked down to our Farmers Market (open on Wed. & Sat.) while I was at my part-time job. Here is what we bought......squash, sweet onions and Lexi begged for a watermelon.

When we got home, I sliced and cut up all of the watermelon, and Lexi helped me put it in two big containers in the refrigerator for ease of snacking.
At the end, Lexi jumped on the counter and yelled take a picture......she is tickled at herself in this picture (also, excuse the eye make-up....she had decided to wear it to

Last night, I sauteed the squash and onion and added some seasoning and *YUMMY* ~ I could have just eaten the squash for my meal.
We have so much fun going to browse at the Farmers Market and eating the fresh produce that is all locally grown. You never know what you may find.

Yes, I am a Hobby Lobby Addict.....

Here is more of the metalware I purchased at Hobby Lobby. I have put seashells in one of the containers and it is on my coffee table. The black container with the decorative balls is on my sofa table. The rest are waiting till I find the right stuff to fill them with. Oh, I can already see the possibilities for the holidays. I must stay out of Hobby Lobby, I must stay out of Hobby Lobby, I must stay out.........

Rooster Love and IDHTBPTBB.....

The first thing I had to look at in my Sunday's paper was the Hobby Lobby sales of the week.....and metalware was one of the categories at 50% off. I couldn't wait to get there because I was going to get one of those wire holders that Susie says she changes out for the seasons....seashells, pumpkins, ornaments, etc. Susie, I am really not copying you just flattering you....right??? And yes, I did get a couple of those, but I fell in LOVE with these roosters!! Are they just the cutest on top of this re-purposed armoire?? I left the basket in the back because it holds our phone books and I frankly like the way it looks, though it may eventually move.
And lookey....I did one of those crooked all the pros.....ha ha!! Anyway, this armoire is in the kitchen and the top of it serves as a pantry because our built in pantry is just tiny. The bottom holds all our board games, some school supplies, paper, mostly misc. Lexi items. Do you notice something on the bottom door??? We got this for a steal because obviously someone tried to do something and either didn't like it or it wasn't turning out the way they wanted. But, I don't even really notice it just adds more character to me and IDHTBPTBB....right? I'm sure everyone knows by now that is Nester's phrase "It Doesn't Have To Be Perfect To Be Beautiful".

Mantle (or lack of) Decor???

I have been so inspired by every one's beautiful homes that I am taking notice of mine and trying to "feather my nest" a little better. Our home is Spanish style, and though I am not fond of that style, it is what we ended up with and we love our location. We have updated some in the inside, but we have this whole huge wall that is brick (the same brick as on the outside of the house). Anyway, this is the mantle, and after seeing some of yours I want to make a mantle with molding and trim for a better look (we have talked about it before but it has never gotten done).
Anyway, what do you think about my display? The column with the candle is the one I got from Hobby Lobby and spray painted black. The next picture just has the fleur de lis I got from Hobby Lobby and of course, painted, instead of the pointy thingy (who knows what that is called?) Do you like the first one or second one better and do you have any suggestions? I LOVE all the bird nests with eggs and have won some from e-bay. I am thinking about putting a nest w/eggs in the greenery and maybe a birdie. I also have ordered a tassel from Susie and I think I am going to hang it on the plate holder that is holding the round iron. I had the pumpkin one hanging there (on the far right) and it looked really cute, but it is not time for that one
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and believe me I won't get offended.

Chapel Visitors

Isn't this a beautiful plate? It is a collectible from the Franklin Mint called Chapel Visitors by Carol Endres. I have a collection of six of this artist's collectible plates in my china cabinet and I will be sharing them with you. They are all adorable.

Hope everyone has a blessed Sunday.

Pink Saturday

Well, we are back from vacation and it is Pink Saturday again, yea!!! I have had these three painted little girls my whole life. My "Mimi" (my great-grandmother) painted these and they were in a front entryway cabinet while I was growing up. When I got married, they came with me, and have always been displayed in my china cabinet. Every time I catch a glimpse of them they remind me of Mimi. Mimi was very crafty, could sew beautifully, and grew gorgeous flowers. Sadly, she passed away in 1989 after a battle with Alzheimer's.

If you want to join in the Pink Saturday fun just click on my Pink Saturday button on the left.

Going on Vacation....

Well, we are up and packing this with all the groceries I bought this morning......
and hubby is getting the boat all cleaned and ready.......

and we are leaving Monday morning to go camping. It is at a nice lake that is only about 20 minutes away. Isn't that long drive. I will be popping back home to feed our cat...we can't just leave a bunch of food out cause she would try to eat it all the first night and might pop!! So, when I am home I'll be quickly stopping by some of the blogs I enjoy reading. See ya and don't forget me!!

Painted Pretties...

Here are my three items I decided to work on first. Of course, Lucy was nowhere to be seen until *click* the picture is snapped. All of a sudden, she had to come check out what I was doing.
Here they are spray painted black. The basket was just one I had around the house that I never use. I like it in black. As I have said, I am on a black or white spray painting spree.

Can you see a problem with my kitchen table??? I know of one I want, but depending on the money situation this one may need to be an upcoming project. Now I just have to figure out what to put with these pretties and how to display them. Sure wish some of the favorites I have (that have been showing all the beautiful pictures of their homes) were going to be traveling to Oklahoma..........

Hobby Lobby Finds....

Look at my Hobby Lobby stuff.....I got ALL of this for a grand total of $28.44!!

The large picture frame alone was marked from $49.99 to $4.99. It does have a few very minor chips but nothing that some black paint can't fix. The Fleur di lis (sp??) and the column are getting their black paint right now. Hopefully, I can post their finished look this afternoon.

Tagged Again!!

I've been tagged!
Hi there! I've been tagged by Joy at Books and Life (!
I am to answer the following questions. So here goes...
Where have you traveled? Texas, Oklahoma, Las Vegas, Hawaii, California, Georgia......I am probably forgetting someplace.
Where would you like to live? I love where we live now...though a larger house in a different style would be nice (ours is Spanish style).
What is your decorating style? Well, mostly country, kind of modern country (is that a style), some cottage and now in blog land I am trying to copy several other bloggers....*blush*
How many times have you been married? One time, we have been married for 28 years
Favorite color: (can it be colors??) pink, red, black, blue
What is your proudest accomplishment? having Lexi after many years of infertility and never thinking we would have a child, technology finally caught up *thumbs up to that*
What would we be absolutely shocked to learn about you? I'm stalking several blogs right now(many more than are listed in my favorites at the moment)....I just can't wait to see their creative inspiration each
This is who I picked to tag...hope they don't mind!

Dana at The Stone Rabbit (

Have fun ladies!

Second De-Cluttered Space

Well, I am almost ashamed to post this as all my favorites have been posting their beautiful rooms and homes. But, this is part of my life, and I am working on getting it back in order. I posted the top of a counter in my kitchen that was the "dumping ground" in June. It was cleaned up and has stayed that way and I might add will continue to stay cleaned off. This is inside that same cabinet.....notice a pattern? When it didn't fit inside the cabinet anymore, that is how it ended up on top.
I am proud to say it was de-cluttered and everything was put in its place. Probably 90% of the "stuff" went to the trashcan.

Now it is a nice cabinet again where I can easily get my hands on what I need. (I can also get to the shelf paper that needs to be replaced, but we will save that for another day.) :)

I've Been Tagged!!!!

How exciting, I've been tagged......... Brandee at The Berry's Patch, has tagged me. This is my first time to be tagged.

Here are 6 unimportant things about me:

  1. I dance around to disco music when I clean house.

  2. I love watching TRU-TV (used to be Court TV).

  3. Mexican food is my favorite food of all!

  4. I am a boring, bookworm-ish person that has no problem being alone.

  5. Crystal Light Peach Tea is my favorite summertime drink.

  6. I drive a red convertible.

Thank you Brandee for tagging me and I would like to tag:

Tiffany at Songbirdtiff

Shannon at Bless Our Nest

Susie at Bienvenue

All three of these lovely ladies are on my favorites list and since I don't know how to make it show like it does over there on the side, I linked it the way I know how.

Anyway, tag you three are it!!

Oops I Did It Again......

Spray painted that is......
Since I have learned you can spray paint virtually anything, my eyes are always looking for my next want. I cleaned out my china cabinet and want to go to mostly white/cream treasures. These were two large pieces that I thought would work perfectly. Look at them, no wonder there was a whole shelf full of this stuff that had been there forever.

Notice the price, no way, I paid $2.00 each for these.

Voila.....I spray painted them to glossy white perfec...imperfection. Oops, I forgot to sand the bottom of the server....notice the little bumps in the paint where it kind of bubbled. I figure it will end up peeling eventually and I'll just do it right the next time. The rest of the pieces were sanded and did just fine. These are just for decoration, I won't use them but I thought they came out just fine.

Here are the treasures in my china cabinet. I can't wait to finish finding just the right pieces to finish out the bottom. (Excuse the glass that looks so smeared, as I wiped it, and wiped it and it still photographs this really can't see all the streaking here). I would love to see other people's china cabinet and see what is in them. Oh, and by the way, see my little birds I showed you in another post on the next shelf up to the left.

Butterfly in the Wind Poem

A child is...........

A butterfly in the wind,

some can fly higher than others;

but each one flies the best it can.

Why compare one against the other?

Each one is different!

Each one is special!

Each one is beautiful!

Happy Pink Saturday

I just went and read one of my favorites and found out it is Pink Saturday. Since I just found out, I didn't join in the fun, but Beverly at has a pink Saturday every Saturday. I will be sure to go sign up.

Anyway, today I just did a little fun post of my poodles' toy basket. They have lots of toys that they play with but these are a little more worn and played with. What color are they???.......PINK!!

Thrift Store Finds

I went to a thrift store and a Habitat for Humanity store and I wanted to show you my goodies that I found.
There are five hardback Christmas and decorating books, one Casserole Cookbook, one paperback for a fun read, three doors from a cabinet that had speakers in them (those are already getting worked on in a project), some chalkboard paint (no, not spray paint but I am willing to give it a try), some egg shaped knobs, eight small plates, a small bowl and a bird (I am on the hunt for white accessories for my china cabinet), and a small stool to re-do. Anyway, the best part is ~ guess what I paid for all of this??................ $7.00.....YEP, you read it right, a whole $7.00. In my book you can't beat that.

Thursday, July 10, 2008

Well, as I told you in yesterday's post I was off to Dollar Tree to find the "famous" ugly ceramic birdies. Kimba has spray painted them, and I ended up on HeathahLee's Butterfly Genes blog and she had painted some of them, and by golly I wanted to paint them too.........

And wow, they are even uglier than I would have thought - they have this kind of crackled paint and it just looks dirty and the eyes and beaks aren't even painted right. I am not sure how Kimba (though by now we all know she is a genius) saw past their looks and knew that spray paint would transform them.

Here is the flock in their cardboard box nest.....getting their primer and their glossy spray paint........

Now LOOK...oops shouting again.....look at them in all their glossy splendor. Can you tell I am excited??? Yes, I have to admit, spray paint is my new best friend!!!

Check back with me tomorrow to see all my thrift store finds.........

I Spray Painted !!!!!!

This is before.............

And this is after in black satin................. (sorry my pictures on this are not too great, it really looks great!)

I am tired of the look I have going in my home (also a lack of decorating skills) and have been wanting to try to paint some things. Thanks to Kimba at A Soft Place to Land (I have been stalking her posts, obviously along with many others), I decided to start out small and spray paint this little shelf. It was so EASY.....did I say EASY??? OK, before I landed in blogland, (very recently) I thought you only painted things like this with a paint brush.....DUH. Kimba showed me how wrong I was with all her beautiful pieces. I am also a visual person, so I also want to thank her for the tutorials. Anyway, believe me I have bigger items that will be coming.........

Guess what else???? I went to Dollar Tree today..............

Lucy Has More Squirrel Fun

You might remember a few days ago I told you Lucy had found some new best friends.....
I saw that where is he???? (top left of the tree)
I know I can catch that squirrel!!

Hmmm, I can't seem to catch it...........

Now I can't even find you (notice the squirrel is still on the tree)....come back my friend....I want to play..............

Hungry Hummingbird

I haven't put up my hummingbird feeders for a few years (that laziness factor had me) but the other morning when I was out on my porch swing I saw one zoom by. That was it......I had to put my feeder up. I put it up, and anytime I have been out back, I have been keeping my eye on it and my camera close by. Well, I finally got a few pictures (difficult with my camera) of the hummingbird that has been pigging out on it. I have only seen one (as far as I can tell) at this point. I think it is probably a female that is nesting in one of our huge trees (we are on an acre with lots of trees) close by the feeder. My literature on hummingbirds says that the females will not travel far from their nest to seek out food while they are nesting. After the babies have fledged (left the nest), it says the dive bomber circus will begin and we should end up with lots of hummingbirds. I can't wait!!
I think they are just beautiful and look forward to seeing more.

My Church Birdhouse

It has been quite a while since I have done any painting but I thought I would share a little church birdhouse that I painted many years ago (as in 18 wha??? am I that old??).
Life kind of took over and I guess I got lazy, and stopped doing many of the crafty things I used to enjoy. But after discovering blogs, (very recently, I know I am behind the times) I feel my creative energy coming back full force.....ut oh, watch out hubby!!
Anyway, hope you all have a serene Sunday and I'll talk with ya later........

Saturday Scenes

Isn't this beautiful?? It is the morning sun streaming down through the trees. Another glorious day in Okie-land.
I also love this ivy that is growing on a small trellis by one of our trees (we live on an acre). I believe it is English Ivy. Its tendrils just wrap right around the trellis and up, up, up it goes.

Happy 4th of July

Hope everyone has a very happy 4th of July!
