Critter Sighting.....

Lucy, our alarm poodle alerted us last night that there was something outside. At night, while we are up, we keep our big door open with just the glass door closed and locked. I knew something was coming up on the porch because for the past several days, Mama Kitty's large water bowl was filthy each morning. Here is what we found. Not only one, but.......
Two coons!!!! I wonder where their Mama is???
They definitely need to relocate!!!! Before I could even finish this post, Lucy went nuts again, and an opossum was looking in the door!!! Grabbed my camera but Lucy jumping at the door scared it and it was gone before I could snap a picture. It was critter city last night on the porch!! Hope you are having a great Thursday.

Aww...they are cute, Darlene, but can't they be rabid? Just be careful when you go outdoors...I've heard raccoons can be pretty agressive.

They are two cute little critters -can't say the same about a possum, though.
Rob had a bag of trash in the back of his truck the other night & came out in the morning to find chicken leg bones laying everywhere. Bet it was one of their NC cousins making the mess.

Cute pictures - but I am like you...these varmits can stay in the woods and out of the back yard.

I wish that some of the alligators that Johnny sees on the golf courses here in Tampa could visit your place for a short time. They'd have lunch and dinner!

Oh me. I know what you are going through. Even though they are so cute, they are also annoying as all get out. Lucky is a good dog. She wants to help. We used a live trap and got a raccoon and an opossum. They now live in the woods. Still have skunks but it is not good to have any wild animals around our families and pets. Good luck.

We used to get them too. Woke up one night because there was loud growling - two of them were fussing over the dog bowl! We had to stop feeding and watering on the patio. I read that they will even come to the bird feeders. Now...I'm not taking down my bird feeders but the article said to remove all sources of food and water.

My MIL told me that they watch racoons every night come and get figs from the fig tree. They wash them in the swimming pool (that's why Lucy's water is dirty) and then eat them.

Still, as long as we remember they are wild animals, I'm glad they are there.

They are so cute!! I know you don't want them around, though.

I think they are very cute, but you wouldn't want to get too close. :)

Oh my goodness. We had a raccoon in our tree years ago. I had no idea how to get rid of it since we have a fenced in backyard (I guess I figured it was thrown over into ours, like they can't climb or something) and I called Animal Control and they were no help! I thought that somebody in the phone book would help us since we live in the city. It finally just went away. Thank goodness!

Amazing pictures, Darlene! We have little baby skunks that visit us! They are sooooo cute, but I don't want to have an "encounter" if you know what I mean! lol! Lori

We live smack-dab in the middle of the city, no woods around for miles. We have a small goldfish pond in the backyard and we've caught raccoons fishing in it at night! We tried to catch them in a live trap but with no luck. I guess they're too smart for that. Varmits, I tell ya!

They are cute but pesky, too. Good luck with getting them out of there!

oh my goodness. The raccoon pictures are adorable---of course I wouldn't want to happen up on one, but far away, they look cute.

We were out in the backyard one night and Chloe yelled, "What is that?" Not 3 feet behind her was a possum. It scared us to death. Never seen such around here. She wouldn't go into the backyard at night for awhile and I must admit, it was hard for me too.

They look so cute, looking out from the tree like that! I agree with you, though, and would want them to find a different place to hang out! :) I hope you have a terrific Thursday! :)

They are soooooo cute! That story reminds me of living with my Granddaddy out in the country. We had two cats at the time and had their food on the back deck. One night I was sitting on the threshold just enjoying the peace and quiet of the night. The cats were both lying down looking over the edge of the deck. At once, they both turned their heads in the same direction (it was so cute) and I wondered what in the world they were looking at. Suddenly, a pair of masked eyes peeped over the edge of the deck, and I realized they had watched the raccoon walk from the side of the deck to the front steps. He climbed up, even with me on the deck, and started eating the cat food. I just sat there and watched him. Then ANOTHER raccoon came down the hill separating my aunt's house from ours, climbed the deck steps, and promptly started fighting with the first raccoon. Well, I wasn't about to get bitten by a wild raccoon, so I scared them off running back into the house!

Good Afternoon Miz Darlene,
Oh My Goodness! Would you look at their faces? Too cute! But I guess they wouldn't make ideal pets huh? *smiles*

Those are the cutest little faces peeking out. I can't believe you got a photo of them. Wow, you're out in WILD country!
Be sure to let me know if your things arrive safe and sound. I'm still learning how to best pack and ship things. That part makes me a nervous wreck. If anything got damaged, I will happily fix it and make it right. Thanks Darlene.

Hello Darlene, Those little guys are cute but they could be bad. I can't stand possums. They are aggressive too. Your photos are awesome.

We have a raccoon or possum that drinks the hummingbird food every night. Also the birdseed. I had a fake birds nest with 3 fake eggs and the critter tried to eat them. LOL Now we take the food in every night.

Keep us posted on how you discourage them to go away.

Hugs...Jeanne

HI Darlene! Oh, those little critters! Raccoons are so cute but I hear they can really be little stinkers! Now we have the possums come and climb up in our trees! They move so slowly or just freeze, so Chloe Dawn never sees them!
You had better started drawing the curtains! These little boogers are loving peeping into your house! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Hi Darlene, Aren't they cute with their little eyes peering at you in the tree?
Can't say possums are cute though. My husband saw one last night in our yard. I am so tired of all the wildlife in my yard causing havoc. I am babysitting my friend's little dog. I let it out in the yard this morning to go potty and I looked up in the tree and a hawk flew up above to check out the dog! I went screaming over and scared it away. Can you image me trying to explain to my friend what happened to her precious little baby? LOL

Such cute little faces looking out of the tree!! I recall, at our old house, we used to have various critters staring at us through our patio doors! In this place, the only animals I've caught "spying" on us have been the neighbor's cats!! I think they are checking out our cats! Hope you have a great weekend. Dana

Oh my Darlene--Wild America at your door. We had three baby raccons that came through our yard with their mama regularly a few years back. Because of rabies here in NC, we are encouraged not to even feed the birds if it will draw racoons to your yard. You'll have to try again for a shot of the possum!

Kelee Katillac said...

Soooo cute! Darlene you know animals have symbolism and meanig. You should google what racoons and possums mean! Other than a barking dog friend...

Caren said...

Ok, I have to say those little guys are pretty cute. At least from that side of the door. We had a 'coon sighting in The City not too long before we left, he was hanging out in a tree and relaxing on our roof. I don't even want to mention the other "critters" we used to see there.

Gretchen said...

Darlene,

I've never seen any raccoons at our house but then I don't go out much after dark for exactly that reason. I hope for your sake they decide to relocate.

Sounds like you have your share of varmits!
