Discovery Girls......

I wanted to share with you a magazine I discovered first, in the library, that is for girls ages 8 to approximately 12. About a year ago, I brought Discovery Girls home to Lexi, just to see if she would enjoy it. She devoured it cover to cover. We subscribed to it and she has been enjoying it ever since. I also read it cover to cover to keep up with her age range. I think it would make a great Christmas present for a young girl in your life, that would last all year long. It comes out six times a year and this is the December/January 2010 issue, just out. Remember, you can click on any picture to enlarge.
Some of the articles in this month's issue are Make New Friends....But Keep the Old! Girls in Lexi's age range seem to struggle to do this without friends getting jealous. We have had a huge issue with this, this past school year. Lexi wants and does, make new friends, and she has one friend that has major issues with it.
Another great article....Are You Too Worried About What Other People Think? We all have issues with this occasionally.
There are always many light-hearted articles too such as Embarrassing Moments....too funny! Each magazine also has book reviews, fashion, crafts and this one also has a story about the rising young star Justin Bieber.
Do I have you interested yet? If so, you can go here to subscribe or just read more about the magazine. Lexi gives it a 10 on a 1-10 scale.

What a great magazine for girls! It is so good to have something like that for these difficult years. Wonder if there is something for boys? Have a great day.

Girls this age can be so cruel to other girls...so if there is something out there they can read to help them is great!

It is a great magazine. We've seen a couple of issues but my little one was too small at the time. Maybe I should try it again now that she's older & we really need that friendship article - girls can really get on my nerves about that. Thanks, Darlene - have a great Monday.

Darlene, does that magazine work for a 15 year old. It looks awesome. I ave a feeling my granddaughters 15/13 might be too old for the age group it features. It sounds like a great magazine.

As I am writing this post Cheri' is eating my slipper. I posted her today. We do love her but I have forgotten what mischief they can get into. She already tried to eat the fringe on my rugs and chew the cords to my lamps. LOL. We are in for it!!! We love every minute.

Have a wonderful day. I have been gone 10 days. I am so happy to be home. No plans until Christmas now. Except Thanksgiving with Christina and Christmas with Diana. Ahhhhhh, I will love the cooking break.

Hugs xoxo, Jeanne

Great tidbit on the magazine! I remember when Ashley was that age, it was hard to find "age appropriate" mags...the material in most was a little too much for me...a grown woman! LOL! So glad that ya'll found this encouraging magazine! ~hugs, Rhonda :)

Sounds like a great magazine! I have a couple of girls to buy for this Christmas and that sounds like a super great idea!! I think people of all ages love magazines. Even as young as Isaiah is, he loves to get his monthly Highlights or Zoo Animals magazines. :) Thanks for the idea!

Hope you're having a great Monday!

Good Morning Darlene ~
This is a great post...this is such a precious and difficult age...any tools we have that we can give them a "soft~place~to~land" is wonderful.

I hope that you are having a great start to your week.

Hi Darlene! Oh, this seems like a wonderful mag for a young girl. I don't have any young 'uns around any more but this would have been great.
Hope you've had a great weekend.

It sounds like a great magazine! I remember reading Tiger Beat when I was her age. David Cassidy was all the rage LOL!

I wonder, do they have something similar for boys?

take care,
Dawn

This seems like a great magazine Darlene--one that encourages and builds up young girls. There are so many trashy publications out there aimed at young people. I'm so glad to know that you've found one that you can feel good about and that Lexi loves. Sounds like it would make a great gift.

Hi Darlene
Fabulous that you've discovered reading that magazine. What a great way to keep in touch with what is going on with the younger ones. It has to be good reading for any age situations...it must be difficult for Lexi to have a friend who is difficult with newness and sharing of friends.
have a good day
Judi
p.s. our weather is fabulous...you must have sent it!

Sounds like a wonderful magazine, Darlene- growing up can be so difficult, and it sounds like the articles are right on with the age group!

It's so hard to find a magazine that is a good fit for a young girl. Too much trash out there! I'll bet she looks forward to receiving it in the mail. Kids love mail!

I cannot tell you how we need a magazine like this in our home right now! My 11 yr. old has been struggling with the overload of estrogen these tween girls seem to be having. Thanks for the information! Paula

My daughter always loved the "girl" magazines.

Darlene, thanks for the info on the magazine. I will do what you suggested.

It is really pouring here. It is an experience to take CC out to potty. She is SO good about going. I think she is real smart. Poodles generally are.

Hugs, Jeanne

Hi Darlene
This sounds a fantastic magazine. Glad to hear Lexi enjoyed it. There should be more magazines like that around for older girls too. All the ones available over here are just full of fashion and not much more!
