Two Organized Cabinets.....

Many of us get in the organizing and de-cluttering mode after New Year's. I was wanting to organize a couple of cabinets but had been too lazy. Well, the two "ice" days we just had gave me the perfect time to get them done. I know it really is embarrassing but this was the "stash" cabinet. If something was up top and we needed to hide it, this is where it went! Look at nosy Lucy....she wanted to know what we were getting ready to do!
This cabinet is to the right of the other one without any divider in the middle. Not as bad but still everything just a jumble.
Ahhhh, much better. I now have lids with all my containers. I have told Alan and Lexi that this is how it is going to stay! Excuse my yucky shelf liner but I wasn't going to drive in the ice to get some.
Here is the second cabinet....much better! It feels so wonderful to have cabinets clean and organized. Now, on to the next one........
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Oh, and if you enlarge the picture and look in the basket of cookbooks you see that I have two of one of them. Guess what that is for???? A giveaway next week sometime....WOOHOO!

New DVD Storage Cabinet....

The good news is that the sleet has stopped falling during the night. The bad news is that all we got was about 5 minutes of snow. The rest has been sleet or freezing rain so all this white you see is ice. The bottom right are those pavers I showed you yesterday that were glazed and just starting to get a bit of ice in them....they are covered now. The sun is already out this morning (it is glistening like diamonds on the ice) and we will get above freezing today so hopefully, all this melts.
Here is our new DVD storage cabinet I told you we bought. We had DVD's everywhere all over the house and we could never find (or even remember if we had bought) the DVD we might want to watch.
I had looked and looked for something and finally saw this at Big Lots and loved it. It was approximately $174.00 but to us well worth it to contain the DVD's. We also have some games stored in it and there is a bottom drawer which houses all our Wii remotes and controllers. I will eventually get some kind of large containers with the sticks or something sticking up to put on either side of the cabinet to fill in some of the space.
I want to eventually alphabetize all the movies so we can easily find what we want to watch. It is wonderful to have all of these contained in one place.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday and stay warm wherever you are. Schools are closed again today here so WOOHOO for Lexi!!!!

Iced In!!!

School is out and we are not going anywhere today. Most of the state of Oklahoma is iced in today. We are still getting sleet in our area, so everything is a slippery sheet of ice. ** Update: It is now 11:35 a.m. and little tiny snowflakes are falling. Lexi is squealing with joy hoping they get bigger and stick. We will see!

These are our front pavers, they are glazed with ice, and it is now filling up in the little dips and crevices. BRRRRR! This will stay all day because we are not supposed to get above freezing. I have a feeling we won't be going anywhere tomorrow either.
Stay warm wherever you are!

Valentine Decorations....

As promised, here are my Valentine's decorations. This is on top of our DVD storage cabinet that I will show you later in the week.
These hearts are red, pink and clear and I bought them from Target. They were on the outer edge of the dollar area and I believe were $2.50 per box. I LOVE them!
I made the little birdie box and I think it turned out cute. I think I am going to add a small nest an a couple of eggs to it.....not sure though. The large apothecary jar is filled with puffy glitter hearts. They are from Hobby Lobby.
Remember you can always click on my pictures to enlarge them.

My sofa table with my Valentine sign.
This was hard to get a picture of, but it is strands of little Valentines, and I have one across the top of each of my windows. I was going to move them, but Lexi liked them and thought they should stay.

I hope you enjoyed my Valentine's decorations. You never know when I might add something else I found or crafted!
We are probably going to get hit with an ice storm this evening. The weatherman says no snow just ice....YUCK! I'll keep you posted.

A Fun Little Container...

My parents came in this past weekend and my mom mentioned she needed a little container to send some Valentine swap presents to some friends on a toy poodle forum that she belongs to. While we were at Hobby Lobby she saw some little Christmas buckets for 90% off which made them 20 cents each. (Can you believe I forgot to take a before picture?!?!?!) Anyway, we (I) spray painted them red and added this little wooden heart on top. I also glittered the middle red heart. We thought they turned out cute.
She is using some gift shred in them along with the little treasures she is sending out. I just have some of my table scatters, which are hearts, in the one little bucket. They almost look like little cupcakes under this pedestal/cloche on my table.
Next week I'll show you my Valentine decorations and a new DVD storage cabinet. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend.

Fireplace Help and New Do....

Here is the fireplace with the insert that we have had for the last fifteen years. We don't use the fireplace and I had been wanting to remove this and put candles or something in the fireplace. Well, with my mom's help (of letting Alan know it would look better without this) we removed it this past weekend.
It was a mess! We have scooped all the remaining ashes out and scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed! We will be trying different solutions that we have found on-line to try to get a bit more of the soot off. Do any of you know what we might use?
I found this iron candle holder with the candles at a yard sale several months ago for $6.00 and it had been stored in the garage just in case.......
What would you all do in this space now? Of course, the pictures show every little yuck....actually I don't think it looks so bad. You know it is the same thing as trying to get a good picture of the Christmas tree.....it is hard!
Also, I got a new haircut the other day. This was the next day trying to do it myself. I have now had several days to work with it and can "fix" it even better. I am enjoying it.

A Sunny Blue Monday....

It's another Blue Monday with Sally of Smiling Sally. Be sure to stop by her blog and visit all of the other Blue Monday posts.
This is now my arrangement on the right side of my computer desk. I dropped by a blog, probably around August or September (I can't remember who it was), and they were selling some things they no longer needed. I really liked this picture and ended up buying it. It seems very soothing and happy to me. Also, these three little tin birds were at one of my favorite "browsing" shops and I thought they were darling so home they came. Our wireless router is also in the picture...I left it cause it was blue!

Hope you all are having a wonderful Monday!

Lucy's Birthday and Bloggy Love....

Happy Birthday Lucy!! Our wild little poodle is 1 year old today! We got her when she was about 3 months old and she has just been a delight.
Then I have had a bunch of bloggy love. Deb at Posted from Home tagged me with a meme to post the 5th photo from my 5th folder. Well, here it is..... opening weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. What a blast we had! Look at the date on the field April of '97. Thanks so much Deb.
Jody at Jody's Cottage tagged me with a fun little game. Here are the rules:

1. Grab the nearest book.

2. Open to page 56.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the text of the next 2 to 5 sentences, along with these rules.

5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual book. Pick the CLOSEST!

6. Tag five other people to do the same!

I had just picked up several books from a thrift store for 25 cents each and this was the top one.

Did she put on her happy face and say that they hadn't changed a bit? Did she lie and say that she was well and happy and working on a new book that was, like the others, sure to be a best-seller?

For a moment Ellie thought back to the day in the DMV. That day she'd been sarcastic and arrogant. Oh, yes, the arrogance of believing in herself, knowing that she was going to conquer the world. In other words, she'd been herself.

The book is The Summerhouse by Jude Deveraux and it looks really good. Thanks Jody that was fun.

Next, I received the Lemonade Award from Joanna and This Southern Girls Nest. Thanks so much Joanna I sure do appreciate it!

Also, Annie from Lemon Annie gave me this beautiful Butterfly Award. Thanks so much Annie I love it!

As you all know by now I never play by the rules, so if you would like any or all of these awards or tags, please feel free to take them. A huge thank you to all my bloggy friends for awarding them to me and I hope you will go visit them. You never know when you might find a new favorite! Have a fabulous Friday!

HomeGoods, Midnight & Awards...

I have to tell you all I went to a fabulous store this past weekend. I heard about it from all of you in blog-land. It is HomeGoods! The closest one is about 1 1/2 hours away in Allen, Texas so off we went. I LOVE it! We bought two things, the first being this bird print. I couldn't get a great picture with the flash cause it kept glaring. Hopefully, you can tell what it looks like.

This is on my shelf right below the picture.
The other large purchase from HomeGoods was this new area rug. Alan, my hubby, was sick to death of the green rug we had in the living area so we ended up getting this one. I really like it.
** Update....Midnight did fine and has woken up from her surgery. She will sleep now and I can pick her up tomorrow (Thursday). Thanks for all your prayers for her. Next, please keep Midnight in your prayers today. She went in this morning to get spayed and de-clawed. I am always so worried until the vet calls and says everything went well.
Last, I am behind as always, on my awards. I want to thank Shelia from The Quintessential Magpie for this wonderful award. I have just "met" her recently and LOVE her blog. Thanks so much! *Edited to add that Kitty from A Bit of Fluff, Quite Messy Really also awarded me both of these awards today. We have been buddies almost from the start of my blog and I wish we lived next door to each other! Thanks so much Kitty!
Also, Tardevil from Confessions of a 40 Something Mama Queen gave me this Friends award. I just love her blog and am so glad to have "met" her. Thanks Tardevil!
Thanks so much for both of these awards and since I never seem to play by the rules, if you would like either/both awards please feel free to take them. I have a few other awards that will be on another post. Hope you all are having a great Wednesday!

Tornado In The Sky?

It's another Blue Monday. Be sure to visit Sally of Smiling Sally for more Blue Monday posts.

The other morning Lexi walked out the door and yelled "Mom, there is a tornado in the sky"! Well, when you live in Oklahoma, also known as tornado alley, that can strike terror in your heart. But, this was a beautiful, though cold day, so I looked up to the sky to see what she was talking about. Isn't it beautiful? And yes, it is a tornado in the sky!
Hope you all are having a wonderful Monday!

Vintage at Work....

I work a very part-time (3 hours a day) job and I am a personal secretary. Our offices are in an old warehouse style building. There are brick walls, huge ceilings and the whole front is glass....really neat. I am going to share with you some of the vintage items my boss has. Here are some old cash registers.
Look at these one armed bandits or slot machines. Guess what....they all still work!
More slot machines.
An old western painting and vintage signs.

An old juke box. Sorry, the picture isn't better...it is in the front window of the building.
Here is an old game, one of those you pull the plunger back and a little ball gets shot around and lands in one of the holes.....guess how much it costs to play? One cent.....yep, a penny.
Last, do you know what this is? It is an old fire extinguisher. Isn't it neat?!?!
I hope you enjoyed the vintage at my office. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
