Our Thanksgiving Recap....

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and hope you all did too. We did something a bit different this year. We prepped all our food on Wednesday, covered it and put it in the refrigerator. Then on Thursday, all we had to do was pull out the food and cook it in the oven. My Mom took the things that cooked at one temp. to her home (just a few doors down) and I cooked the rest. It worked out wonderfully. Here is Lexi (with Mom in the background) making the bread crumbs for our stuffing. Lexi helped prepare all of our Thanksgiving Day dishes. She had a lot of fun working in the kitchen with us and did a great job.
Stirring up the broccoli, rice casserole.
This was my table centerpiece.
Look at all this food for the five of us! We had turkey and dressing, broccoli and rice casserole, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, corn casserole, watergate salad, cinnamon apple cranberry sauce (a new recipe for us that I'll post later this week), rolls, pumpkin pie and pecan pie. We have eaten left-overs every day!

We ate (the first time) around 2:00 p.m. and after the clean-up it was time for one of Lexi's favorite games......spoons.
We are supposed to have a cold front coming in today with some rain. Hopefully, hubby can get the rest of our lights up on the house before it gets here. Have a great day.♥

A Winner, A Dessert and Happy Thanksgiving.....

First off, I'm sure you all want to know who won the giveaway. Thank you so much to everyone who entered. We did the drawing the old-fashioned way and put all of the names in a container and I let Lexi draw the name. Can you read it?.......
How about now? You can click on the picture to enlarge it. Oh well, I'll let you out of your suspense. It is congratulations to HeathahLee from Butterfly Genes! Just send me an e-mail with your mailing address and I'll get your lovely book to you pronto!
Also, I made a yummy dessert last night. Lexi was sprinkling it with chocolate chips.
Have you ever seen these cute little boxes? I got mine at a craft show but they sell these at one of our little "cutsey" boutique type stores in town. This one was Pumpkin Cobbler and it is delicious! We have tried several of these and they are all delicious. If you can't find any in your town, the company is called Plentiful Pantry and here is their website. It would make a great Christmas present and they are great to have around if you need an easy dessert.
Last, I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends.

Discover Your Daughter ~ A New Parental Website

After I told you about Discovery Girls on my blog here, I was contacted by Jen at Discovery Girls, and she told me about a launch of their new website for parents of tween daughters. Now let me pass it on to YOU! Last Wednesday was the launch day for www.DiscoverYourDaughter.com . I have been on it, explored around it and I really think it is going to be a great tool for us. Let me show you part of the e-mail from Jen.

A little history? It?s hard for parents to help their daughters if they don?t know what their daughter?s problems are. Recognizing that, the publishers of Discovery Girls magazine created this online community for parents of tween daughters -- DiscoverYourDaughter.com -- to educate parents and share with them what we know about what girls go through during the difficult tween years.

We?ll share:How to help her learn to identify & stand up to bulliesWhat she thinks parents don?t understand about her life?and what to do about it.How parents can teach her to use technology wisely, so she?s not ruled by text messaging, IMs, email, etcHow to know where to draw the line on privacy? How much should tweens have? How to help her deal with jealousy, disappointment, and failure so she grows into a resilient, strong, confident young womanHow to help her to love and accept her bodyHow to build a foundation so she?ll make good relationship choices now and for the rest of her life

The site is very easy to navigate and there are articles for parents and girls. Everything is grouped by topic, and you have an option to subscribe to the parenting newsletter for regular updates and the latest study findings.

If some of you have thought about ordering Discovery Girls for your daughter, there is also a trial subscription and you receive a risk-free issue. If you LOVE it, pay just $19.95 and receive 5 more issues, if not just write cancel on the bill, return it promptly and owe nothing.

Now, go on over and start browsing this new web site and let's make it a great resource for all of us that occasionally need some help navigating our tween girl's world. Look for me.....I am mom-to-lexi. Appropriate, don't ya think!

Oh, and remember you can enter my giveaway here.♥

One for Me and One for.........

The contest is now closed for entries....I'll post the winner Wednesday morning.♥
You!!!! Yep, it is a giveaway! I want to thank all of you for being such great friends. I just feel so blessed to have met so many wonderful blog friends. Your comments are always so delightful. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment, and I will post the winner on Wednesday morning. Easy enough! This beautiful hardback book is called Believe Christmas Treasury and is illustrated by Mary Engelbreit.

The book is gorgeous with a fabric type feel and gold edged pages. It is full of stories, poems, quotes, and song lyrics and is beautifully illustrated by Mary Engelbreit. It will be great for you, or for a gift for someone that loves Mary's delightful illustrations.

Also, I updated my profile photo again. I had gotten my hair cut and colored last week and tried to take a decent picture of myself. I just didn't really like that picture, so I had hubby take a better one.

Softball Party.....

It was another great weekend here in Oklahoma. Wonderful weather and fun stuff. On Friday night, Lexi went with a friend's family to the OU women's basketball game in Norman and then spent the night. Saturday, a friend and I went to a couple of craft shows in town, and Saturday evening/night there was a cookout for the girls softball team. Lexi wasn't on the Fall team, but she is on the Summer league and the tournament league with these girls, so we were invited too. This is on one of the coach helper's land.....they have 40 acres and are planning on building a home there. Hubby Alan (in the red hat) is helping cook the hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages they had.....YUM!
Lexi and her daddy.♥
This was a big bon fire that was built in another area.
It was starting to get dark. Lexi and I had walked to their dry creek bed. It was pretty big, see the tree roots all behind her? The banks were high above our heads. Lexi was a bit "scary" because her friend (that her parents own the land) said they have seen wild hogs, deer, turkey and coyotes on the land. Of course, with all the screaming, running, playing kids, there were not going to be any around.....but I couldn't convince Lexi of that!
She had to take a picture on their big, red tractor.
What cookout would be complete without smores? Always a fun thing to make and eat!

What a fun weekend with friends! Our weather took a turn on Sunday afternoon. It has gone from the 70's for highs, to a high today in the mid 50's (with wind chills in the 30's!).....Brrrrrr♥

Midnight says.......

I've gotta stay out of Lexi's Halloween candy!!!!!!!!!!....lol (No, we don't let Mid get into any candy. Hubby just happened to catch her like this while she was grooming herself!)
Hope you all are having a great day! I talked to my dear blogging friend Ramona yesterday, for the first time. It was so much fun! We just talked and laughed and I enjoyed it so much. I hope that someday we will be able to meet. Wouldn't that be GREAT?

Discovery Girls......

I wanted to share with you a magazine I discovered first, in the library, that is for girls ages 8 to approximately 12. About a year ago, I brought Discovery Girls home to Lexi, just to see if she would enjoy it. She devoured it cover to cover. We subscribed to it and she has been enjoying it ever since. I also read it cover to cover to keep up with her age range. I think it would make a great Christmas present for a young girl in your life, that would last all year long. It comes out six times a year and this is the December/January 2010 issue, just out. Remember, you can click on any picture to enlarge.
Some of the articles in this month's issue are Make New Friends....But Keep the Old! Girls in Lexi's age range seem to struggle to do this without friends getting jealous. We have had a huge issue with this, this past school year. Lexi wants and does, make new friends, and she has one friend that has major issues with it.
Another great article....Are You Too Worried About What Other People Think? We all have issues with this occasionally.
There are always many light-hearted articles too such as Embarrassing Moments....too funny! Each magazine also has book reviews, fashion, crafts and this one also has a story about the rising young star Justin Bieber.
Do I have you interested yet? If so, you can go here to subscribe or just read more about the magazine. Lexi gives it a 10 on a 1-10 scale.

Leaves EVERYWHERE, More Etsy and A Win.....

I have to tell you when you live on an acre with tons of trees, you end up with a leaf mess!! We are already covered up and there are STILL a lot more leaves to fall. This is down the side of our home (we live on a corner lot)......a total blanket of leaves (click on any picture to enlarge).
We have a horseshoe shaped driveway and this is part of it....covered up!
Now on to some more Etsy love. I saw these burlap acorns from Ramona at A Day in the Life of Ramona and had to have them. They are sooooo CUTE!
Also, look at these darling velveteen Christmas bell acorns, also from Ramona. She has more of these cuties in her shop right now so if you want them, pay her a visit. She has also told me she is working on something new for her shop. I can't wait to see what it is. Thanks Ramona!!
I also saw these cute tags at Anne Fannie's Green Acres. They come 6 to a pack (as you can see I bought four packs) and will be so adorable on our Christmas gifts. She has a lot of cute tags in her shop. She also has another Etsy shop with beautiful mosaic pieces she has made. Go by and take a peek. Thanks Anne!!
Also, Jes from Kady Hope had a question on a post asking "What are you crafting right now". Well, I answered her that Lexi and I were crafting the locker magnets and it entered me in her giveaway, which I ended up winning. Here is the loot......clear stamps, funky fibers, and little library pockets. She also sent some candy to us and we have already eaten it!!! Thanks so much Jes, I'll put on my crafty thinking cap and come up with a craft for these.
Lexi is out of school today for parent/teacher conferences, so we will just be hanging out, chillin'. Hope you all have a great Friday.♥

Stuffed Bell Peppers and Apple Pie (Dump) Cake...

I have to tell you that I have been cooking a lot more than I ever have, and I am really starting to enjoy it. Last night, with my parents still in town, I decided to make Stuffed Peppers with Ground Beef and Rice (click on the name for the recipe) for us. It was delicious! I had never made anything like that before and it turned out great. Here are my pretty, washed green peppers.
I set a simple fall table for the meal.
Here they are just out of the oven....YUM!
The meal was stuffed bell peppers, green beans, french toast w/garlic and peach tea. We all stuffed ourselves. But, we managed to save room for dessert.
Dessert was Apple Pie Cake or Dump Cake as I call it. I haven't had this in a long time, but I saw the recipe here on Manuela's blog, The Pleasures of Homemaking and it is soooooo easy and delicious!
We added our favorite vanilla ice cream to it and pigged out. If you ever need an easy dessert, this is definitely it. Gotta tell you it is also delicious for breakfast!
My parents are leaving today to drive back home to Houston. I'll miss them, but it won't be long before they are back in town again for Thanksgiving.♥

Halloween Fun....

Lexi dressed up as a witch this year. Friday afternoon they had the downtown trick-or-treat with the merchants. My parents were in town and they had never been, so we went and roamed around a bit. The lines are always long up and down the street and Lexi only got a bit of candy. We shopped in a few stores. She is in front of my favorite antique store.
Here is what it looks like up and down Main Street.
It was beautiful all weekend long. Saturday morning Lexi carved her pumpkin. She made a Weaving Widow (spider).
Look at that concentration!
Saturday night she was dressed and ready. She ended up going to a Halloween party with one of her friends. She had tons of fun and ended up with lots of candy!
