Lexi's Solo Dance Competition.....

Sooooo, you are curious about how Lexi did.  Well, it might have been a disaster.  Lexi was as nervous as I have EVER seen her.  She has been on stage plenty of times, but never dancing solo.  There were 60 entries in the competition.  Solos, duos, trios, small groups and large groups.  She was the 10th performer at 5:06 p.m.  Awards would start at 8:30 p.m. and (at the time we didn't know) everyone would get an award.....no matter how they did.  She was back stage with her teacher and Alan and I went and sat in the audience. It was time........Lexi came on stage and started dancing BEAUTIFULLY when part way through we saw her face go blank, with a scared expression.  She lost her place for about an 8 count!!!!  She did keep moving her arms and moved on stage and almost as quickly as she "blanked" she was back into her dance, looking great.  I knew she was going to be UPSET.  So, I waited just a bit before I went back stage.  She was crying away and couldn't believe she had forgotten her dance.  All of the other dancers were telling her they had ALL done it at some point or another.  Forgotten, fallen, something, and if you perform in front of people and hadn't messed up yet, you would at some point.  It helped but she was still devastated.  Anyway, she changed and we went roaming around the town we were in.
When we returned for the awards ceremony, they had all of the dancers sit on the stage.  It was at this point that we realized everyone would get something.  The acrylic trophies were 3rd place - silver, 2nd place - gold and 1st place - platinum. They handed out trophies in the dance order, so we didn't have to wait long.  They called out Dreams to Dream (the song name) gets........................PLATINUM!!!!  Her dance teachers, all of her dance friends and Alan and I all screamed with joy!  We were all ecstatic!  The biggest thrill for her, was the fact that to perform your competition dance in the recital (in May), you HAD to have platinum.  She did it and will get to perform.  Her teacher said she has never seen a ballet performance get platinum when there was a mistake in the dance, because they are watching the technical details......the rest of Lexi's dance was perfect though.   We are soooooo proud of her, and that she kept it together during her performance, after the mistake.

She is definitely beaming now!  Way to go Lexi!!!!!!!!

We couldn't video at this competition.  But, since she will be in the recital we should be able to video in the rehearsal.  If not, we will video her in her dance studio so you all will be able to see her ballet solo.♥

Isn't that something!! It was quite a night for Lexi. I know she was just devastated with the mistake but she handled it so well and the judges could see how wonderful a dancer she was. Congratulations to her!! That is just something!! The picture is just beautiful, what a beauty she is.

Congratulations are in order for this performance-even with the mistake. The way Lexi conducted herself after realizing she was blank about her next move...then picking up and continuing her routine is so admirable...one error did not stop that gal!

Way to cover, Lexi! Great job!
Believe me - I've been there & done that but you can always improvise until you get to a good spot to jump back in to the choreography.
So glad it turned out well & can't wait to see the video.

I KNOW and BELIEVE she is an awesome dancer. And every other thing she decides to do. CONGRATULATIONS Lexi. Cyber love to you sweetie.

With all the cousin stuff going on I forgot to visit your post yesterday. In fact I didn't visit anyone yesterday. Today, after I rest up, I will be visiting all over the place. Smileing!

Thanks for your visit Darlene. I like the name Lynda. When I was young my family called me 'Sylve Jeanne'. lol. Let's see...'Lynda Darlene' In both cases that is a mouthful. HA!

Enjoy your day. NC is beautiful right now. Come and visit us. :)

What a great surprise for Lexi. She didn't give up and the judges rewarded her for her beautiful dance and probably for keeping it together even when she blanked out for just a bit.

I'm sure she is thrilled to be able to perform at the recital. Congrats.

Good Morning Darlene!
Yup.. know what you mean about the forgetting stuff. I hate that!
I really hope that the family works on that house and makes it shine again too!
Sorry about the colder weather, I can relate. We are already 5o degrees and it is still early, so I am hoping for a warmer day :)
Have a great day today!

Wahoo!! That is Awesome!!

I have to share, my Janie forgot part of her speech during a serious contest, and still placed in first place. She was so embarassed, but she did so well on the rest and questions that she won!

Tell her, never, ever lose faith. Even when performing! :o)
